INTRODUCTION:
Teeth decay (cavities) is when your teeth get holes in them because of germs.
These germs eat the sugar from the food you eat and turn it into acid.
The acid then makes tiny holes in your teeth.
If you don’t clean your teeth well, these holes can get bigger and cause pain or even make you lose your tooth.
CAUSES:
Germs in Your Mouth: Your mouth has tiny germs that make a sticky layer on your teeth. When you eat sweets or carbs, these germs produce acids that attack your teeth.
Sugary and Acidic Foods: Eating or drinking a lot of sugary or acidic things can damage your teeth by making them weak.
Not Cleaning Your Teeth: If you don't brush and floss your teeth well, the sticky stuff builds up, making it easier for your teeth to rot. Regular brushing and flossing help keep your teeth clean and healthy.
PREVENTION:
Clean Your Teeth: Brush your teeth with toothpaste twice a day.
Clean Between Your Teeth: Use dental floss to clean between your teeth once a day.
Eat Healthy: Eat less sugary and acidic foods and drinks. Eat more fruits, vegetables, and dairy.
Visit the Dentist: See your dentist regularly for check-ups and cleaning.
Use Mouthwash: Rinse with mouthwash to kill germs.
Drink Water: Drink water to wash away food bits.
Chew Sugar-Free Gum: Chew gum without sugar to help clean your teeth.
TREATMENT:
Fillings: When a small hole (cavity) forms, the dentist cleans it and fills it with a special material to stop it from getting bigger.
Crowns: If a tooth is very damaged, they might put a cap over it to protect what’s left.
Root Canal: If the decay goes deep into the tooth and hurts, they might clean out the inside and seal it up.
Tooth Removal: Sometimes, if a tooth is too damaged, they have to take it out to keep your mouth healthy.
Stay Healthy: After treatment, brush well, floss, and see your dentist regularly to keep your teeth in good shape.
